About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and knowledgeable Peer Lactation Counselor to provide support, education, and encouragement to breastfeeding mothers. The ideal candidate will have personal breastfeeding experience for at least 6 months and a passion for helping others. This role involves offering one-on-one counseling, leading support groups, and providing resources to new mothers to ensure a positive breastfeeding experience.

Join our team as a Peer Lactation Consultant within our African American Community Support Program, dedicated to empowering and educating families about the importance and benefits of breastfeeding. Here we provide women with a safe welcoming, non-judgmental space to discuss their concerns, questions and cultural myths.
Requirements
Must have breastfed for at least 6 months within the last 5 years.
Have an open availability for phone and/or virtual support to families.
Must also agree to attend weekly breastfeeding group classes
Written essay on why you like to be a PLC
Must speak to your experience with breastfeeding
Mentoring experience preferred, but not required
Experience with other factors around maternal health, facilitating, and/or of civic groups
Attend a PLC training and complete all modules of the training.
Have a usable email address.
Have a minimum of 10 contacts per client on a monthly basis.
Agree to meet monthly with a peer supervisor to discuss outcomes and experiences.
Aid and promote the normalcy of breastfeeding in the African American community.
