About the Role
A postpartum Doula is expected to provide support and information to new parents and their families during the postpartum period.
Education: Provide evidence-based information on infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery, and coping skills
Support: Offer non-judgmental support and companionship, and help families adjust to new parenthood
Care: Assist with newborn care, such as diaper changes, naps, and feedings
Household tasks: Help with light housework, such as dishes, tidying up, and laundry
Meal preparation: Make meals or healthy snacks
Referrals: Provide resources to related services, such as birthing classes or a lactation consultant
Advocacy: Advocate for the mother and help facilitate communication between the mother and her care provider
Comfort: Help with mom's post-birth comfort measures, such as keeping her hydrated and comfortable
Requirements
Must be a NYS Medicaid Credentialed Doula or have attended at least 25 birth and be willing to enroll in NYS Medicaid as a provider.
Must be very flexible
Must be willing to travel between multiple Counties
Must be confident and comfortable mentoring a student doula for appointments and births.
